Messenger Multiple Parametetric Code Help

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with using/tracking multiple parametric codes in Messenger?
I can track people if they have already started a conversation and then they scan a code.
Having trouble with tracking ref from parametric codes for new people at the get started stage.
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
