Could the rise of chatbots be considered a sustainable aspect in our lives?

Hello everybody,
I was wondering with a colleague of mine whether the rise of the chatbots can be considered a sustainable aspect in our lives or not. I think that this might impact both designers and end users.
Design/developing side, I was thinking that a chatbot can be a sustainable artifact because it can be embedded in others IM apps, so it doesn’t require effort in terms of UI, visual design, …
On the other side the chatbot can be an inclusive service for the end-user in terms of “cognitive efficiency”

What do you think about that? I would like to get to the heart of the matter.
I really appreciate any contribution.
