Just wrote this post about the psychology of designing bots to feel like friends.

Would love to know what you think.

Hi Nir,

Yup, it’s a good one. Your book of course provides the basis, but the application on the various aspects of bots works very nicely. I’m especially ‘triggered’ by the last phase where the investment in usage pays off. That’s where bots really can make the difference and where companies can monetize the data they (hopefully) collected over time.

Yet, I’d like to challenge you on another aspect that I think bots need to feel like friends, and that is personality. It’s not included in your model (I think, unless you add it to the reward section) and I think it is essential for a bot to feel like your friend. It’s difficult to design a bot personality, but I feel like it is essential for longer term success of your bot.

Would you agree with this?

Regards,

Jeroen

Yup! I think that’s what I talk about in the “Enjoyable” section of the article.
